Penguin Design Award - Test Shoot

I set up my little diorama in the third-year room, just to get an idea of how it would look, and so that I could figure out to what scale I should be working.



These initial type tests confirmed that I wanted to have the title set out with a single word on each level of depth. It definitely works best with "THE" in the background and "SLEEP" to the fore. I then set about introducing the various props, including a little image of Weegee, the legendary photographer who was also first at the scene of any violent crime (they said he used a Ouija board, hence the nickname).



Despite the fact that I often shy away from hands-on craft work, I was enjoying this immensely and sensed that some real magic was starting to happen. Here are a few examples of my experimentation:



I really like this one that happens to feature my type poster of Rupert in the background - talk about surreal! Very Big Brother...
